General Business:
2010 AGM
Venue for the AGM has changed for those planning to attend - Frances has the paperwork with this information for those going to Albany
We wish all those going a safe trip
Springwood Foundation Day - 27th March
Members needed to man the stall, display their bikes and take part in the parade. Come for a couple of hours or come for the day - any time you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Set up from 7.30 am - finish 4.30pm
This is a great day to spread the word about the club - last year we gave out around 45 information packs
Rides
Combined Branches ride - Feb 7th - with Nepean and Hawkesbury - to O’Connell Pub for lunch via Bells Line - it would be great if members attend - leaving Maccas Panthers at 8.30 am. If you want to be collected along the way please contact Alan Gilks - 0247 35 1722 mob 0428 351 722
Canberra Masterpieces Tour - 13-14th March. Visit the National Gallery to see art from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris including Van Gogh, Gauguin and more. Flyer is attached. If you are interested and want more details please contact Brian - 4739 8015
The ride calendar can be found on the Main Ulysses website, the Yahoo forum and the BMU website
Guest Speaker
Jim has organised a guest speaker - Dr Alan Griffiths (Dr Bones) Orthopaedic Specialist - arranging for him to be at May meeting.
Anything Else?
Socials - the suggestion was made by members that we bring back the social nights - not every month and not necessarily at a members house. Alternate between venues and perhaps have one every couple of months.
It was also suggested that breakfast or lunch socials could be arranged
The committee has been discussing this and is planning to put socials back on the calendar.
Website - Questions were raised about the website not being updated for long periods of time, the ride calendar being outdated and links that don’t work. Daryll has been on holiday and has been busy at work. Updates also rely on members sending items to Daryll for the website. Some members said they had sent items through but they had not been put up.
Concerns were raised about the workload being too much for Daryll and perhaps someone else could help.
Suggestion was made to move the site back on to the main Ulysses site for new members to access rather than having to go off site - many other branches are doing this now. It was suggested that this puts us back under the Ulysses Club banner where we should be.
Concerns were raised about the website being the public face of our branch and the fact that if it’s not updated it presents us as a branch that is not active.
Several suggestions were put forward and consensus was that the committee should look into it.
It was also suggested that members can post their own ride reports and photos to the Yahoo forum - if you have not joined this and would like to let us know and we will send you an invitation. Contact Julie - hawkeyes@netspace.net.au or Robert - rstanton@ozemail.com.au

He also showed us the shirts that have been approved and they got the nod of approval.
Penrith Council have given us $35,000 in cash and $60,000 in kind donations, NSW Tourism have given us a $3,000 donation.
Excitement is building and things will really start happening after Townsville.
Peter thanked Blue Mountains for their support and on going commitment.
The ride calendar
Seven people attended the meeting for this so thanks to those who took the time.
A ride calendar has been put together for the next 3 months with some changes so please check starting times and starting points
With four ride leaders in attendance it was difficult to organise a ride calendar and keep everyone happy.
A new idea for Rider’s choice is being trialled - meet at Mountain Blue Springwood or Mountain High Pies Wentworth Falls for coffee and decide on a ride for the day or just have breakfast and go home.
If the lack of interest in the ride calendar continues we may have to cut back club rides to two a month.

Xmas Party
This was a great night, shame for those who missed it. We had a jukebox and Karaoke, the hall was excellent as was the food. Everyone who attended had a great time. Thank you to all who assisted with the organising.
Membership Check -
We have been asked by NATCOM to check current financial member status at a branch level. Can members please check the renewal date of membership (on back of Ulysses Card) and forward it to Julie for branch records - 4782 4331 or julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com Those who were at last night’s meeting should have already done this on the form that was sent around.
Trivia Night
We would like members to get involved wherever possible, try and seek out sponsors and to book seats early if planning to attend - seating limited to 250 max.
Sponsors letter and package is available for anyone who knows of a sponsor or needs one to give out.

We need to start organising this as there are only two meetings before the event
Ulysses Greenslips -
The Ulysses Club has managed to get a group/fleet discount for Green slips in NSW through All Class Insurance Brokers P/L.
Apparently members are saving quite a bit of money so maybe worth checking when greenslip is due. Deborah Monaghan attended last night to fill us in on what it’s all about. If you forward your information to Deborah she will send you a quote one month before your greenslip is due. We have brochures available for anyone interested. All Class are also offering the chance to win 1 of 5 free greenslips by requesting a quote. Deborah can be contacted on 1800 780 222, or you can check out the website - www.allclassinsurance.com.au and follow the Ulysses link.

Jim & Frances attended the Beardies Festival in Glenn Innes in Nov and won 2nd prize in the Show and Shine - first prize went to a Goldwing (Ron from Mudgee for those who know him) with 67 accessories (according to Jim)

Ride Reports.
There were a couple this month.
Robert’s Mystery Ride - who went? Robert did - he was ride leader, tail end Charlie and everyone in between. At least no-one got lost!
Richard led the ride to Tarana Pub for lunch - felt a bit intimidated by all the bigger bikes following his 250cc scooter and almost got blown away by the winds.
Jim told us of their ride to Capertee Pub for lunch - seems if you call ahead and order Lamb Shanks they will be on the menu - or does this only apply for Jim who asks for them everywhere he goes!

branch
Members did our branch proud on the 2009 AGM stand - almost gave away all the information packages in the first two days! Kathy even offered to sell the shirt she was wearing
Phil won three prizes at the giveaways - he came looking for a different shirt so they couldn’t recognise him. Won white Water gift cert but couldn’t use it because there was no water in the river!
Nepean boys issued a challenge to the Blue Mountains boys for a go karting competition - we outnumbered them so we reckon we won.
Ron’s nipple was a talking point and he exposed it just about everywhere!
There was a suggestion that Members left behind still need rides.
Members Forum
A Yahoo Group has been set up by
Robyn Bogart for Blue Mountains
members to use. Members have to
join through Yahoo to be able to
read or post messages. We will be
sending out invitations so anyone
interested can join.
This will be useful for members who
want to ride or travel, attend
rallies and are looking for company,
impromptu social nights, for setting
up regular reminders etc without
putting extra work load onto Julie
or Daryll.
Owners/Moderators - Robyn, Robert
and Julie are able to accept or
reject members and keep an eye on
what goes on - we are open to
bribes!
This will allow for greater
interactivity between members.
Social nights
We are going to try and implement
some different social nights to take
the pressure off members hosting a
dinner. Suggestions for alternative
social outings/nights such as Go
Karting, Bowling, Aqua Golf, Ice
skating, ghost tours. Any
suggestions are welcome.
Of course we still welcome members
who want to put their hand up to
host a dinner - these are fun and we
really wouldn’t like to lose them
completely so please feel free to
volunteer.

want to help in any way.
Anyone interested should put their
name on the list and the area they
want to work in.
Ride starting time - From the 1st of July all rides will start at 8.30 am.

Foundation Day - March 31 2007
What an absolutely beautiful day it was - all that chrome shining in the sun made a great display! As usual members turned up to show of their bikes and take part in the parade.
We had 22 bikes at the high point of the day - after the parade - with about a dozen bikes on display over the course of the day.
This year we also had three vintage bikes which drew quite a bit of attention - especially when the 1925 Douglas was started. There was even more excitement when it was driven out at the end of the day - nearly taking a stall with it - there is no clutch on this bike so it’s a pick up speed and hope for the best. Robert willingly gave a hand and pushed him on his way. Thanks go to Len for organising to have the bikes on show.
We gave out plenty of information packs and membership forms - several to lady riders who weren’t too keen to ride alone.
It was nice to see Klaus for a while and some other faces we don’t see very often. Jim Durno came for a while before he heads back to Queensland. Members from Nepean who are almost regulars for this event now and of course our Club President Kim Kennerson.
To all those who attended thank you for making it a great day and doing our branch proud. For those who helped set up and pack up a special thank you. Hope to see you all next year.
Julie
General Meeting - March 6th 2007
We welcomed a few new members tonight - Rob from Faulconbridge who rides a Harley (but we won’t hold that against him), David from Medlow Bath, Darren from Cranebrook and Gunter from Katoomba.
Treasurer’s Report
Our new treasurer, Karen Soo Kee gave her first report tonight and it sounded good for a second when we had a million bucks in the kitty. We wish - our current balance stands at $1446.26
Trivia night - Sat 17th March
Anyone who hasn’t booked a seat and wants to go should contact Julie ASAP - 4782 4331 - as tables are almost full.
We have some great prizes this year - a motorized child’s motorbike kindly donated by Hawkesbury Branch, Nokia phones, jewellery, accommodation packages, wine and vouchers from various businesses including a car service and rego checks, tattoo parlour, body piercing parlour, hardware, eateries and more. And wait till you see what we’re using for the coin toss!
We will have the usual auctions and gold coin entry games during the night so come prepared.
And don’t forget to dress the part - St Patrick’s Day so green is the colour. There is a prize for the best dressed table.
The Morning After the Night Before
There is a BBQ breakfast on the Sunday morning at 8.30 am at Springwood Bowling Club followed by a ride - probably out west to see our fellow Ulyssians on their way home.
If you plan to attend this could you please let Robert know so he can cater for everyone - 4751 2549, robert.stanton@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Springwood Foundation Day - 31st March from 7.30 am till 4.30 pm
Once again we will be taking part in this very popular event. This is a great day where we get to spread the word about The Ulysses Club and help make the general public aware of motorbikes.
We need members to man our stall, put their bikes on display and take part in the parade. Either let us know if you will be attending or turn up on the day.
We will be at the end of Greenway Lane outside the Post Office - as per previous years so we can block the road.
T-ball - Sun 29th April
We have challenged Hawkesbury Branch to a rematch and there has been a change of date on this one so we could use Sun Valley Reserve. Warm up those muscles and practice your running and batting skills. This was a great time last year so we hope to see everyone on the day. More details at next months meeting.
There will be bbqs available for lunch - there are no shops so lunch is a BYO.
Coffs AGM - 21st May - 27th May
We are still waiting on registration forms to organise group booking and it is getting closer so we need to get this done.
There will be a special meeting for those going to the AGM on Tues April 24th at Daz & Jenni’s place to finalise organisation. More details next month.
We are still working on a way to get the gear to Coffs, if anyone is driving up and is willing to carry gear can you please let us know just in case the trailer option doesn’t work.
It has been suggested that the Blue Mountains Branch as a group volunteer to man the gear shop for a day - alternating shifts. If you wish to be in this please let us know as a volunteer form will need to be filled out and so we can inform the Coffs committee.
Shirts & Badges
Anyone wanting club shirts or name badges for the Coffs AGM should put their orders in now. I will be submitting another badge order on Monday so please ring or email Julie if you want to add your name to the list - 4782 4331, julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Membership Check
NATCOM has suggested that all members check the expiry date on their membership as some members have not renewed and are un-financial. Please check your card expiry date.
Feedback.
The committee wants to make this branch as good as it can be for all members so with this in mind we would like to encourage all members to feel free to give us feedback about any issues you may have. This means positive or negative feedback about meetings, rides, socials or any other issue relating to the branch.
Speak to a committee member, ride leader or raise an issue for discussion at a meeting.
Social Night Suggestion
A night at the movies followed by dinner has been suggested as an idea for a Social night. Are members interested in this - the current movie ‘Wild Hogs’ has been put forward. We may be able to get discounted tickets so if anyone is interested in going to the moves please let Julie know - 4782 4331, julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
2009 AGM - Penrith, 16th - 23rd March 2009
The 2009 AGM Committee is interested in what members want to see happen - or not happen - at the 2009 AGM.
Julie Hawkins, Robert Stanton & Greg Petley from our branch are on the 2009 AGM Committee so if you have any ideas, suggestions or something you think shouldn’t be at the AGM contact them so the information can be passed on.
Also if you are interested in being involved with the organisation at a team or volunteer level please let them know so your name can be added to the list.
Upcoming rides:
Sun 11th March - Burrawang Pub - in the southern highlands

What a great turn up - 84 - has to be a record, there were a few members from other branches including Hawkesbury, Sydney, and Eastern Creek and a couple of new faces, John who builds jet bikes, Graham and Alan. BBQ was a huge success as usual.

Blue Mountains Meeting December 5th 2006
We had a smaller turn up this month but it was still a good number. We had apologies from Danny and Kerri, John & Dorothy, Jenni Lundie and Warren & Elaine - although their apology was discarded when they walked in the door.
Incoming mail
We have received five copies of the Members Guide booklets from Head Office. These are for the members to read but we ask that you return them to the committee when finished so others can read them.
Christmas party is over – What a night it was.
Everyone who went had a ball. There were about 60 members in attendance and our thanks go to Martin & Marion for opening their house for us, Karen for organising the food and the muscle men who helped with the tarps, everyone who helped with the setting up and the cleaning up. Thanks to Warren for the wet floor signs.
It was rumoured that some party animals were still dancing at 2 pm!
Guest Speaker Peter Cohen – Super Visor
Peter came to show us his goods. He also provided a Super Visor and some Anti Fog for the raffle. The Super Visor helps to keep the sun out of your eyes and the anti fog allows you to see by keeping your visor fog free.
Stay Upright
This course proved to be a great success for all who attended. Tony & Adriaan gave glowing reports on the day and everyone highly recommends the course. Vicki Barnes won the prize for Most Improved on the day - a Cornering and Braking Course. There were honourable mentions to Adriaan and John Webb
Frank Johanson from Stay Upright attended the meeting and spoke about instructing opportunities within Stay Upright.
Badges
We have decided on the badges for members and will be putting in an order very soon. We have some samples with magnetic clips which appear to be extremely strong (not recommended for those with pacemakers).
Anyone wanting to order a badge needs to get their name to Julie as soon as possible. Please state what you want on the badge - full name, first name or nickname. The cost with a magnetic pin is currently at $7.22 or with a pin is $5.90. If we get over 51 this will drop. (we currently have 37)
To order a badge contact Julie - 4782 4331 or julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
AGM
This is coming around fast so we need to get organised. For those who haven’t registered and are planning to camp I suggest you do it soon.
For those camping we need your registration number to organise a group site - the one on your registration sheet you will receive from Head Office. Please forward a copy of this to Julie - 4782 4331 or julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
We need to carry the tarps and gear for the campers so if anyone is driving up and is willing to tow a trailer please contact a committee.member.
Branch elections at February meeting
Our elections will be held at our February meeting where the current committee will stand down. Five members of the current committee have indicated that they are willing to stand for re-election. This means there will be four not restanding.
A nomination form is attached to these notes, for a copy click here. If you would prefer to have a copy as a .doc file please contact me and I will send you one.
Please consider
There are 9 positions so if for any reason a committee member cannot attend a meeting a vote can still be taken.
There are eleven meetings in a calendar year - Jan is the only month we don’t have a meeting as there is no general meeting that month.
Trivia Night
Our Trivia night is on St Patrick's day 17th March 2007. The maximum number we can fit is 250 which is 25 tables of ten per table and we have several tables booked already
A flyer will be sent to other branches in December and a notice will be put on the Ulysses notice board on the Ulysses Website and possibly an article in Riding On.
Any member wanting to book a seat or a table should get their booking in as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Contact Julie - 4782 4331 or julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com to make a booking.
We are also looking for sponsors so would any members who know potential sponsors put their hand up and advise the Committee so we can coordinate contacts with them. We need about 50 prizes.

Next General Meeting
The next meeting will be February 6th (first Tuesday) at the SAD Club and it will be a sausage sizzle starting at 7pm followed by the meeting at 8 pm and committee elections.

General
meeting 7th Nov 06
We had several new faces tonight, visitors from Eastern Creek and Nepean, members recovering from illness and a prodigal member - seems Canberra couldn’t keep her.
We had apologies from John & Dorothy - work got in the way, Thomas - Europe is a bit far away to travel to the meeting, Andrew - Sue would have killed him if he didn’t take her out for dinner for her birthday.
Mail In - Old No1 is giving up riding after a fall last month. The decision had to be made sometime and Stephen has decided now is it. There are an endless number of members willing to give him a ride so I am sure we will still see him out there - even if it has to be on four wheels.
Christmas Our Christmas party is on Dec 2nd at Martin & Marion’s - everyone should receive a flyer, if you don’t please let us know. Anyone not booking before the 21st Nov will miss out as we have to give the caterer definite numbers. Please get your booking in early to avoid missing it.
2007 AGM in Coffs Harbour - registration forms will be in the Nov Riding On. Anyone camping should register ASAP as there are limited spaces. There are some incentives for early registration this year:
â For those that register up to (close of Business) COB 15/12/06 will go into a cash draw prize for $500.
â For those that register from 16/12/06 until the COB 15/1/07 will be eligible for a cash draw prize of $300.
â For those that register from the 16/1/07 until the COB 15/2/07 will be eligible for a cash draw prize of $150.
â All registration entries received at the Narellan Ulysses Administration office must be date stamped to be eligible for each of the respective draws. The draw will be conducted at the Ulysses Administration Office as soon as practical after each closing date and result is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
Stop Press
â All registrations received by the 30th March 2007 will be eligible to win a Hyosung GT650 Tourer
Welfare Officer - This was a suggestion from NATCOM to have someone within the branch for contact in the event of illness, accident or anything else. Members at the meeting agreed that they are happy with the current availability of committee members and there was no real need for a designated welfare officer. We do need to know however if anyone with illness wants the information made public or not.
2009 AGM Nepean Meet & Greet - Daryll put together a great slide show to fill everyone in. There are great plans in the works and 2009 in Penrith should be a great AGM if it all comes together.
Guest Speaker - We had a guest speaker - James form Ozemoto - to show us his gear (clothing that is!) He had a great array of stuff and his contact details will be available on our web site or we will have business cards available at the meetings.
Stay Upright - all members are welcome to attend the theory night on Fri 24th Nov at Springwood Bowling Club, and anyone still wanting to attend the course should contact Kevin for more info - 4739 0297 (he’s on the Snowy Ride this weekend so suggest you wait till next week).
Elections - Members need to start thinking about our elections in Feb - the committee will be standing down. Please think about who you want on the committee and if you want to nominate early please send your nomination to a committee member so we can make up a list. We don’t have a January meeting so you need to think about this over the Christmas break.
If you are interested in being on the committee and want to know more please contact a current committee member to find out what’s involved.
Ride co-ordinators meeting. We have a ride co-ordinators meeting on 21st Nov 7.30pm Springwood Bowling Club, Macquarie Rd, Springwood (not the SAD club) If you wish to put forward a ride destination or want to see what goes on with organisation of a ride calendar please feel free to come along.
Badges - We are in the process of organising name badges for any member who wants one - these are the plastic type that other branches wear for meet and greets etc with the branch logo and the Old Man. Cost will be about $8 depending on numbers and we are asking members to pay for their own badge. If you would like a badge please contact Julie - 47824 331 or Julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Changes to Ride calendar - There have been a couple of changes to the ride calendar; please check out the online calendar or a paper copy.
This Sunday’s ride has been changed - we are now going to Rockley pub for lunch. Ride leader is Ron - 4782 4331
Nov social - There will be no social this month as it is too close to the Xmas party.
Members with trailers etc - We are looking to put together a list of members willing to help out members who break down, either with a trailer or with mechanical ability. If you are interested in being on the list please let us know.
Trivia Night - this is coming around again - 17th March 07 (St Patrick’s Day). We already have table bookings so if you are planning on going we suggest you book early. This was a great night this year and should be again. A flyer will be going out soon.

Singleton Ride July 29 2006
And there were:
Ride leader Stewart
Brian
Martin (Marion was on Nana duties)
Andrew (Sue thought it would be too cold)
Jacques and Carla
Thomas
(Eu)gene
Wayne and Janelle
Jim (Frances was sleeping)
Jim’s mate Tom
Joe
Trip reporter Karen and Kevin
And the weather – absolutely glorious, fine and sunny…
In point of fact, it wasn’t actually a Singleton ride, it was only intended to be a Singleton ride and it actually went to Jerrys Plains. Or maybe Marion and Sue and Frances thought it was really a singleton ride, destination unimportant…
So we met at Blaxland Maccas more or less on time and our intrepid leader Stewart outlined where we were going, where we would probably regather if we got scattered, where we would stop enroute, and then we left more or less on time. Via Hawkesbury Road to Agnes Banks, around by the Pecan Farm through North Richmond, Bells Line of Road, Blaxland Ridge Road to the Putty Road, where someone who should remain nameless (but here’s a clue: sounds like Martin) said “go” and the couple at the front opened up a lead over the rest of us, so they were able to order coffees first at Colo Heights.
While the smokers smoked and the drinkers drank (we are advised the coffee here is not up to the M&M standard) the trip route was placed under scrutiny by the leader, and it was decided after discussion and observation of many bikes on the road that Singleton could be overpopulated so maybe a little diversion to that city of cities Jerrys Plains in lieu of Singleton might be a good idea. After all, there’s a pub there and a servo so what else would be needed?
After the smokers had smoked and the drinkers had drunk and the bladders had been emptied, we set off again, but without Jim and Tom who had to return to be in time for their evening engagement. Oh, and Brian was spotted coming out of the Ladies Loo – what was that all about, Brian?
There followed a bit of enthusiastic riding north from Colo Heights to Bulga servo for a regathering, fuel for a couple of cruisers, kitkats for the scribes, and on the way we had noticed the yard at the Halfway House was absolutely crowded with bikes, so yes it was gunna be a good decision to divert to Jerrys Plains. There were several bikes parked at Bulga while the riders refreshed, a couple of ‘busas among them – ah, marvellous machines…
Jerrys Plains pub wasn’t crowded, in fact only six people were there, and one was travelling through on an old Yammie, and two were staff. So our crowd probably did them a favour in occupying their time – gave the staff something to do, and the locals something to talk about J
You know how you have a chat over lunch – so we know that Thomas is still running in his new Suzuki GSX1400 – but he knocked back my offer to ride the next few running in kilometres for him, apparently he really doesn’t want to ride a Hayabusa (I think that was what he said…) but new as Thomas’ new Suzuki is, it’s not as new as Gene’s new VVVulcan. I wrote it like that because it’s a huge V motor. It was only two days old. We asked Gene why and what he rode before that, and his reply was: a ZZR, but I was getting a bit silly on that, so I thought I’d get something a bit slower!!! Yeah yeah, the new one is only 2 litre displacement!! J
Our next regathering point was across the road at the servo, so after an hour and a half of chat, laughter, lemon squashes and steak sandwiches and fishnchips and similar, we regathered there and refuelled. Following the ride leader we then departed for the Halfway House for hot chocolate, and yes, we behaved on the road more or less and no there wasn’t a big crowd, probably another half dozen bikes and no there is not much chocolate in the hot chocolates.
There followed another run at more or less legal speeds until we regathered at the turn to Blaxland Ridge Road. Some continued straight ahead at this stage, but most of us retraced our steps (or wheel tracks) and pulled up at Hawkesbury Heights to say farewells, and a big Thank You to Stewart for leading the ride in such exemplary fashion, even down to organising perfect weather, good humour, dry roads and little traffic!
Social gathering for July – Christmas in
July at Karen and Kevins
It really looked as though it was going to be a small gathering – only a week to go, and less than a dozen names down…and then it looked like it was gunna be bigger than Ben Hur, and the chief started worrying about enough food and probability of rain and where would everyone sit and would there be too many and how many is too many?
In the end it was a well-attended night, possibly one of the best crowds for a social night, full of good humour and good wishes – just like Christmas really J
We put a leg of pork and a topside roast into the BBQ about 3pm and kept an eye on the temperature and drinks level. And from then on, people started turning up to help.
Marion and Martin Greaves brought braziers, heat beads, firestarters, but no matches, a huge cauldron of home-made pumpkin soup and a big pile of bon-bons.
Robert Stanton turned up and demonstrated the length and breadth of his Army training by peeling a big pot of spuds to bake. Oh, and Robert brought his sister too.
Allan and Collen Ahern brought a Christmas pud, as did Richard and Julie Mason.
Julie and Phil Plimmer brought an assortment of hand-made “Jealous Jack” jewellery for gifts.
Who else?
Julie and Ron aka John Hawkins
Chuck and Catriona Coull
Stewart Ivin
Kathy and Mal Waugh
Carla and Jacques Horninge
Elaine and Warren Bowman
Daryll and Jen Lundie
Frances and Jim Hill-Murray
Denise and Adriaan Winton
Andrew and Sue Hall
Janelle and Wayne Benge
Danny and Kerri Ward
Julie and Catriona and Kathy were big helpers in the kitchen. Chuck mostly stood in the way…Ron and Mal helped with the beer tasting – you can do that when you have booked a bed J
The ladies supervised the roasting of vegies, serving of gluhwein, serving dippy cobs, stuffing of pumpkins, and, and, and…geez it was terrific…
So we stood and sat and chatted and ate and drank and bullshitted and laughed and mingled and popped bon-bons and ate and drank and put on silly hats and played with toys and ate and drank until quite late except we had to do an early taste test for Jim and Frances who had to leave early, and after we had done all that for some time, some of us did it for a bit longer...
So, from our point of view it was a really terrific night, it was great to see some faces new to social nights, some faces new to Blue Mountains branch, and we hope to see lots of them again at the next functions.

Another good turn out this month with a few new faces – some have ridden with us but this was their first meeting.
We had a special guest this month – Jason Hooker from the ANZ bank who brought along a giant cheque for $2000 to be donated to the Arthritis Research Taskforce (ART).
Ride Protocols.
On advice from NATCOM we will no longer have ride protocols as such. We do ask that riders start with a full tank and ride safely and to their own capabilities however.
Stay Upright
Kevin is organising a Stay Upright course for interested members. This will be in November and will be added to the ride calendar as soon as dates are confirmed. It will be mid week and arranged specifically for Ulysses members.

Contact Kevin Couter - 4739 0297, kev11e@iprimus.com.au for further information.
Trivia
What a huge success this was! We had over 170 attendees with members from Orange, Eastern Creek, Bathurst, Stephen Dearnley #1, Jack Lewin #3, Klaus Peemoller #17 and some NATCOM members including President Kim Kennerson and wife Jenny.
We will be donating $1280 along with the $2000 from ANZ to ART.
The night was extremely well organised – we have even received compliments from professional trivia night organisers. We also received a letter of appreciation from Stephen Dearnley.
Thanks go to Daryll Lundie & Danny Ward for the amount of work they put in to make it such a success and it wouldn’t have worked without the excellent scoring from Jenni Lundie, Kerri Ward and helpers Amy & Natalie who also provided music during the breaks. Certificates were presented to those involved and also to sponsors who included Warren & Elaine Bowman.
Next year is booked for Sat 17th March.
The Morning After the Night Before.
On Sunday after Trivia we had a BBQ breakfast and it went down very well. This was followed by a ride to Bathurst to see some members on their way home. From feedback received both events were enjoyed thoroughly by those in attendance.
Rides.
Our new ride calendar will be up on the web shortly so keep watching. We have a few new destinations coming up so we hope members enjoy them.
We have had some good rides in recent weeks and look forward to many more. We would like members to provide feedback so we know we are getting things right.
Upcoming events.
Social Night – dinner and hang around to hear Backbeat play (Jim’s group)
Date: 17th June 06
Venue: Royal Hotel, Springwood
Time: 7 pm
RSVP: 15th June - Julie, 4782 4331, julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Meeting notes – 4th April 06
What a great turn up – we had about fifty odd people in the room. There were new faces, many had come after meeting us in Springwood on Saturday. There were a few old faces we haven’t seen for a while and Driz is back. We had visitors from Eastern Creek (checking us out for the trivia night maybe? I (Julie) won the bottle of wine for the Heads and Tails so there’s hope for BMU on the night!) The BBQ was a great success.
Treasury
Karen Carmen has taken over as Treasurer and we have changed banks to avoid fees. Thanks to Warren for his job well done over the last twelve months.
Springwood Foundation Day
What a great day! We had 28 bikes in the parade & about thirty odd bikes over the course of the day. Angus did us proud with publicity when he took a 70 odd year old lady for a spin in the sidecar then carried her in the parade. We tied a Ulysses logo to her walking frame and made her an honorary member for the day.
We gave out stickers, information and membership forms – the most yet. It was a great display of bikes and several kids had photos taken sitting on Jim’s bike. Karen did an interview for a local radio station (Daz is going to put this on the web site) and an excellent job she did.
It was nice to see some spouses and partners there also – we’d really like to see you more often.
To all who attended and helped a great big thank you – looking forward to next year.
Wednesday Rides
Rolf gave us a ride report for the Wed mob and it seems they have a great time visiting places like Lucas Heights. Apparently Noel likes to find different things to go and see. If you want to join them meet at Maccas at 9am on Wed morning.
To quote Rolf “we’re a complete bunch of idiots!”
Trivia Night
We have twenty tables booked with members from Eastern Creek & Orange joining us and possibly still more to come. We will be having a breakfast & ride on the Sunday after - more details as it gets closer.
We have tyres from ProCycles, Jacket, pants, gloves & vouchers from the Motorcycle Superstore, phones from Nokia, bears from Russ Bears, gear from Pens Plus and much more.
Anyone who plans to attend but hasn’t booked a seat or table should do it now – we are reaching room capacity and will have to stop bookings soon. Remember you don’t have to fill a table we do have odd seats available.
On the night we will need hands to set-up so anyone willing please let a committee member know.
Special Event – 6th May
Eastern Creek are taking part in a Shave for a Cure for leukaemia. This will be at Action Motorcycles at Parramatta. Kevin their secretary has agreed to shave of his beard and mo that he has had since his teenage years – could be interesting.
Danny offered $500 to see Chuck bald so Chuck has agreed to do it. I think we should offer our support in the form of taking photos, laughing, cheering etc. Have been informed that one of us could even hold the clippers! More details as they come in.
Fines
Fines were back this meeting and boy did they get used – especially by those who went to Tassie, things like not being able to start the bike on the boat, giving false directions. It was decided to donate tonight’s collection to the above event (Shave for a Cure for leukaemia) so Driz was given the Police hat. We collected $112 dollars.
Shirts.
We are now taking orders for our new shirts. These are available in Polo (with loose pocket for those who want to attach one), t-shirt and long sleeved t-shirt. We also have a sleeveless fleecy vest available – very good quality and very warm. Contact Julie for more info or to place an order. Julie – 4782 4331 julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Upcoming events.

Ph: 4735 4918
Email: pplimmer@bigpond.net.au
Safe riding and hope to see you out there.
Meeting Notes - March 06
Considering many of our members are in Tassie at the AGM we had a good turn up with a couple of new faces and some faces we don’t see often enough.
This month we started a new meeting structure to bring back the fun by introducing co-hosts, on time starts and a drinks break after about 40 mins and a get to know everyone session. It seemed to work well and those attending apparently had fun.
After many requests we are also bringing back the fine system with a few changes, such as only one fine per member per night (doesn’t mean you will only get bagged once per night) and coin only (of any denomination).
Feedback is most welcome so we can make the meetings more enjoyable.
Shirts
Due to our shirts no longer being made we had to find a new design. The design we have chosen is available in polo and t-shirt. We also have a long sleeve option. The Polo style comes with a loose pocket for those who wish to attach one.
Cost – over 50 shirts Polos $36 Ts $26 Long $30
Under 50 shirts Polos $38 Ts $28.50 Long $32.50
We have dropped the names so we can have some on the table for sale at meetings.
Orders are being taken now.
Springwood Foundation Day – Sat 1st April
We are taking part again this year and would like an idea of how many will be attending - let Julie know Ph: 4782 4331 or email - julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Stall will be manned all day by several members but everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along – even if it is only for an hour or to take part in the parade. It is a great day and gives us the opportunity to spread the word about the Ulysses Club. Kids and grandkids love looking at the bikes and family members are welcome.
We need bikes on display at the stall and to take part in the parade. We had 24 bikes in the parade last year so hopefully we can do the same or better this year. We are also hoping that some members will be willing to let children or adults have their pictures taken on the bikes (we had numerous requests for this last year).
Set-up from 7.30 am finished at 4.30 pm. At the end of Greenway lane in front of the Post Office (like previous years) access during the day for bikes is via Greenway lane.
Trivia Night – 13th May
Our Trivia night is on again and we already have 12 tables booked. This was a fantastic night last year with some great prizes – even better this year. We would really like our members to outnumber the members from other branches this year.
We have some extra special guests this year – old No.1 Stephen Dearnley, No.3 Jack (John) Lewin and our own No.17 Klaus Peemoller.
We have some other sponsors this year which may include The Motorcycle Superstore, Nokia, IGA Springwood, BMW, ANZ Bank, local butchers and other businesses.
Any BMU members who wish to come but can’t fill a table there are seats available on other members tables and we have at least one BMU table possibly two so please don’t miss it because you are concerned about not knowing people on your table.
Cost is $10 per head with ten to a table.
Social nights
There is no social this month due to the AGM but we do need hands up for anyone willing to host a social at their home. If you are willing could you please let the committee know.
Ride Calendar
There have been a couple of last minute changes to the ride calendar that are not updated on the web site (our web master is in Tassie)
This Saturday’s ride is to Kangaroo Valley – not Talawa Dam as advertised (Talawa ride will be rescheduled) Wayne is the new ride leader – Ph: 02 9676 7035
The Halfway House ride on Sun Mar 19 has a new ride leader – Wayne - Ph: 02 9676 7035 (Robert will not be back from Tassie in time)
The Turon Ride on Sun March 26 has been changed to a Rider’s Choice on Sat 25th March – meet at Maccas and decide on the destination.
Next Meeting – 4th April
Our next meeting will include a pre meeting BBQ form 7pm (it would be nice if you could let us know you are coming for the BBQ). Your hosts will be Danny & Daryll with what we are sure will be a very entertaining wrap up of the Ulysses AGM.
Safe riding and hope to see you out there.
Meeting Notes – 7th Feb 2006
Had a good turn up with about eight new faces.

If members have any suggestions please forward them to a committee member.
Trivia night – 13th May 2006
The hall is booked and ticket sales are starting. This was a great night last year and other groups are already asking for tickets.
This year we would really like to see more of our members attending – out of 100 plus last year only twenty were BMUs. It’s worth attending just to see Catriana get her bra off in record time!
We are also asking members to approach any contacts they may have for prizes – any type of business that could possibly assist such as fruit shops, butchers, grog shops, accommodation venues, restaurants, motorcycle shops, or if you have a business and are willing to donate a prize. We will hopefully have some major prizes like last year such as mobile phones but if members can assist it would be great.
Please mark the date – gather your friends or family and fill a table.
Tickets $10 per head – ten to a table.
Foundation Day – 1st April 2006
Yep, it’s here again. Anyone interested in helping out, putting their bike on display, taking part in the parade please let Julie know. Come for an hour, come for the day, we always have a good time spreading the word about Ulysses and motorcycle riding.

We need volunteers for future socials so if you are interested in hosting a social night or would rather go to a restaurant please let the committee know.
Who was it who:
Got 400 mtrs from home, broke down, called for help from a fellow member but the problem couldn’t be fixed so had to wait 3 hrs for a tow truck?
Had 300 kms on the trip meter of a Virago but didn’t stop for fuel?
Rides
This Saturdays ride is to Mt Kiera – ride leader is Wayne 029676 7035 .
Booklet
The idea has been put forward to create a Riding in the Blue Mountains booklet for motorcyclists. The idea is to cover the area on the mountains, around Oberon and possibly out to Rylstone and Bathurst. Stewart Ivin put forward the idea so if anyone is interested in helping please contact a committee member or Stewart on 4751 1497 or 0412 258 622. There are ways to get assistance with this through bodies such as the Motorcycle Council and Blue Mts Council apparently has a Traffic Officer who may be able to help.

We will also be finalising our ride protocols and ride leader protocols. A ride calendar for January will be sent out once rides are in place.
Trivia Night
Planning is starting for our next Trivia night in May – the last one was a huge success. Anyone wanting help with planning, prize organisation and everything else that is involved with organising an event like this please let a committee member know. It would be nice if we could have a better showing this year as last year we were outnumbered by other Ulysses Groups.
Ulysses AGM 2006
There will be a meeting for those going to the AGM in Tassie on Mon 6th Feb to discuss and organise what will be happening with our group during the AGM.
Other business.
We may have to change our club shirts as the current design is no longer being made – more information on this as we work it out.
Danny sent a letter and a couple of our pins on behalf of Blue Mountains Ulysses to the newly formed Norway Group to welcome them into the Ulysses family.
The trailer that was discussed earlier this year is now available for the club to purchase. Warren will have his available for the Feb meeting so we can check it out.

Moto Colour – Chuck had work done and was extremely impressed. Looking at seeing if rep can attend meeting as a guest speaker. Contact details will be on the website soon.
What a great turn up this month - was it the sausage sizzle or the venue? It was suggested we make the sausage sizzle a regular occurrence as it went over so well.
We welcomed four new members and partners and I didn’t hassle Shamus to join for 18 months - it was only 6 months!
Ulysses Info
The
criteria for age badges has changed - mentioned in
May Riding On and on the Ulysses web site. A member
no longer has to have 9 years membership to qualify
for a 60, 70 or 80 age badge. There is also a Long
Service Badge being introduced for anyone with ten
years or longer membership. More details about
availability as they arrive.
There is a fund raising function to raise money for The Arthritis Research Task Force being held on the Friday 1st July at Castle Hill RSL. Tickets are $15 dollars - $10 goes straight to the Task Force, $5 covers nibbles etc. Anyone interested in attending please contact a committee member to arrange tickets.
General Business
Congratulations and thanks were passed on to Daryll Lundie (Daz) for the excellent job he does with our web site.
Birthday wishes were sent to all those having birthdays this month.
Trivia night report
Our Trivia night was a great success. We raised $1100 for club funds and $500 for donation to the Arthritis Research Task Force from the auction of an $1100 mobile phone.
Catriana Coull won the first person to get to Danny with a women’s bra - you’ve no idea how fast it came off! One woman simply held up her top and said ‘Grab my tit’ to Danny - he gave her a prize anyway!
Phil was not eager to get his undies off even though Julie tried hard to convince him.
Daz gave out a few BMU mugs to mugs, including one he had to follow into the ladies toilets!
A huge thank you goes out to Daz for organising the questions and donating two Nokia mobile phones, Danny for helping and donating the prizes, Jenni and Kerri for scoring and everyone else who assisted in making the night such a success.
The only disappointment was the lack of attendance by our own members - we were outnumbered by Eastern Creek and Sydney who are already asking when the next one is.
Our next one is next year - date to be confirmed - which we are hoping to include as the main event in a weekend meet and greet. We are working on this and anyone interested in helping please contact a committee member.
The Wedding
Janelle and Wayne tied the knot on the 21st May (same day as the Trivia). Members and friends provided an honour guard of 22 bikes to the church and then to the reception. Janelle and Wayne would like to thank everyone who attended for making their day great.
Guests were asked to make a donation to Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre - where the reception was held - in lieu of gifts and $650 was raised on the day. This was extremely useful as it kept the doors open a bit longer.
Special Request
The Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre is in desperate need of assistance so they can continue to help families and those in need. With this in mind we are asking members to make a donation of food at our July social and our August meeting. Below is a suggested list of items:
Pasta and/or Rice Sauce to go with these
Tinned fruit or fruit in jars
Tuna, salmon or tinned fish
Tinned meats and vegetables
Anything non perishable
A simple can of soup can mean a meal where there otherwise may have been none.

We had a good turn out this month - about twenty five members. Apologies were received from several members.
Elections
Tonight was an election night and also a chance to implement some changes. The position of Secretary was formalised and the committee was increased to nine. The decision was made to scrap the split committee as the format wasn’t functioning as well as expected - this means the current committee - new and old will remain in position until February 2006 unless a member stands down. The new committee is as follows:
Julie Hawkins 4782 4331 julie.hawkins@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Warren Bowman 4751 5055 warren.bowman@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Danny Ward 4759 1999 danny.ward@bluemountains-ulysses.com

Brian Doherty 4751 3046 brian.doherty@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Catriana Coull 4753 6088 catriana.coull@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Robert Stanton 4751 7323 robert.stanton@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Phil Plimmer 4735 4918 phil.plimmer@bluemountains-ulysses.com
Thank you to those members who voted or put forward suggestions.
AGM Update
A special meeting will be held on Tues 15th Feb at Springwood Bowling Club to finalise arrangements for the AGM.
Any member planning to attend the AGM has to be registered before the 14th Feb.
The committee travelled to Canberra for a preview on the 29th Jan and were very impressed with the organisation, facilities and planning. The Grand Parade which starts from Anzac Parade should be impressive.
Anyone going to the AGM should attend the meeting on the 15th to get final details about gear loading and transport, the ride down and anything else you need to know.
We have organised Blue Mountains Ulysses AGM shirts and these need to be ordered no later than the 15th - preferably this week - to have them back in time. If you want to order shirts please contact Julie - 4782 4331 or Kerri - 4759 1999 or attend the meeting next week. We also have available club bucket hats - it was very hot in Canberra and we got badly sunburnt while walking around.
Presentation & announcements
A special presentation was made tonight from the group to Danny for his commitment, generosity and support. We presented him with a Weather Station (he likes to watch the weather) and a framed photo of him on his trike.
We also announced the arrival of Gerry Mitchinson’s first grandson and the upcoming wedding of Janelle & Wayne.
Trivia night.
Our trivia night is now on the 21st May and tickets are now available.
Cost is $10 per ticket and there are ten seats at each table. Members can buy a single ticket or fill a table with friends or family.
Anyone wanting tickets should contact Kerri - 4759 1999. We will be issuing a challenge to other Ulysses groups to join us so come and support our group and show us just how smart you are.
Change of Venue
This subject has been raised several times now and from tonight’s meeting it seems the majority want to move the meetings back to Springwood - this would be at the Springwood & District Community Club (SAD) and our meetings would have to be moved to the 1st Tues if we wish to keep Tuesday night as our meeting night.
We will be putting this to members as a vote so please think about this issue and any feedback is appreciated.
Social Nights
The success of our social nights at members homes has been great. Members who have attended are more than happy with the events. The menu is being set by the host so there is a possibility of endless variety not just BBQs.
Our next social is:
Pasta Night at Daryll & Jenni Lundies - 30 Warwick Close, Blaxland East
19th Feb 6.30 pm
$10 per head
RSVP 16th Feb - 4739 8536 or dlundie@bigpond.net.au
Please don’t forget about our special AGM meeting on the 15th Feb.

Meeting
Notes Jan 2005
We hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
It was nice to see some faces we haven’t seen for a while, Richard Mason - he now rides a scooter that he says is great, Justin put in an appearance and we had a new member (for our branch anyway) Jim Durno - you’ll see him shooting around on the yellow trikes in the upper mountains, not to mention his trike with a Subaru motor in it. Considering it was January and many people are still away we had a good turn up.
General Business
Donation
A huge thank you to Danny & Kerri who made a donation of $3000 of toys to Kids with Cancer on behalf of Blue Mountains Ulysses. For those who are not aware of just how much Danny & Kerri do let me fill you in - they provide all the raffle prizes and other items required by the club for specific functions e.g. marquee for foundation day, paper plates etc. Our thanks go out to them.
Meeting Venue
Suggestion has been made to change our meeting venue and starting time.
At the moment our only option is to move to the Springwood & District Community Club on Lawson Rd (SAD) at Springwood. Springwood Bowling Club will be moving here in July while the main club is being rebuilt. It was also suggested that we start our meetings at 8 pm to allow members more time to get home from work.
Feedback is requested from members so we know if this is what members want
Upcoming Elections:
Danny, Martin & Julie are up for re-election in Feb. Please think about who you would like to see on the committee. This does require some commitment and time. Julie & Danny have agreed to re-stand unless someone specifically wants their positions, Martin has yet to advise us.
It is suggested that we have a permanent secretary position (currently the task carried out by Julie) elected for 2 yrs - either a committee member or separate position for continuity.
Also suggested - possibility of increase in number of committee - 7 to 9 - and increase in committee terms as the overlapping elections only give us six months to work as a team.
If you wish to nominate or vote please attend the meeting or contact a committee member to make your preferences known.
AGM
Dates: 7 - 13 March
This is coming up fast so registrations should be completed ASAP. Anyone camping needs to get a copy of their registration to Danny so he can get our group booking organised.
Trailer room - please try and limit your gear to two bags - i.e. tent & bedding. Personal stuff should be carried on your bike. We have 22 members attending at this point.
Our Committee is attending a preview in Canberra on 30th Jan and final information and ride organisation will be available next month.
Funds
Our funds are depleted due to Christmas and we need to rebuild then so the suggestion has been made to gather funds from advertising, trivia night etc. Which brings us to the next point -
Newsletter
The suggestion has been made to produce a seasonal/quarterly newsletter. This would include ride reports, calendars, photos, member’s submissions and advertising. This would be available in printed form and on the web site. This is will benefit those members who do not have access to the web site by providing them with ride reports and photos. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome
New Ulysses Web Site
The new main Ulysses web site is up and running - members will need to re-register to access forums etc. Make sure your membership is current or access is denied (ask Chuck)
Shirts
We have been asked for shirts with pockets so Janelle will be arranging samples - current shirt not available with pockets. If you have any preference for colour please let us know.
Upcoming Social Events
We will be continuing with the idea of BBQs on alternate months but we need members who are willing to host a BBQ at their home. Please let a committee member know if you are willing to do this. We had a great time at the inaugural BBQ and everyone agreed it was a good idea.
Chucks Wagon
â 22nd January
â $10 per head
â RSVP Chuck - 4753 6088 by 18th Jan
Trivia night
â 19th Feb at the SAD Club
â we will be approaching other Ulysses branches to organise a little friendly competition or you can bring family and friends along.
â tables of 10 at $10 per head (members can buy individual tickets and join a table)
â please advise if you need tickets so we have an idea of how many to print.
Upcoming Events
Springwood Foundation Day
â On 2nd April - organising to begin soon.
â Members should think about putting bikes on display, helping on the stall and taking part in parade. This was a great day last year so join the fun and come along. (it was suggested that Ducatis are not good in parades - last year the only Ducati entered had to have it's clutch replaced after the parade)
We have been asked if we can provide bikes for a wedding on Fri 21st Jan. If you can help with this or want more info please contact Chuck - chuck.coull@bluemountains-ulysses.com or 4753 6088. Bikes will be needed for the afternoon till about 5 pm.
Safe riding
